Flagging already!!

In certain quarters I am known as flagman! I was often approached by my bosses regarding when and which flags could/should be flown and was one of the only people (allegedly) in the borough that could tell whether our own Union flag was upside down or not!
Just recently I went in to a shop to tell them that both of the Union flags were upside down and left them all arguing inside about it! However it's not high treason and you can no longer lose your head over it, it is a mistake made that people don't realise can be made. I have known flag manufacturers to get it wrong as well by putting the toggle on the wrong end. So it's not just the general public that can make mistakes.
Formula one and main sporting events are prime targets for 'Flagmen' like me and with the Euro soccer, Diamond jubillee and Olympics, it's been a frustrating time already, to say nothing of how it's going to shape up from the official start of the Olympics, tomorrow.
Nearly a half of the Union flags on the Champs Elysees in Paris on Sunday for the history making win by Bradley Wiggins of the
Tour de France were being enthusiastically been waved upside down!
I guess some enterprising Frenchman had stuck flags on sticks not knowing there was a right way and a wrong way!!
Anyway it may give you something to look for to keep you occupied during boring bits of the Olympics, especially some of the really international ones that we don't see that often!
Anyway with that in mind have a read of this - already - this was last night in Glasgow for the opening sports action of the Olympics and women's football.
I say nothing more at this point!!

The Olympic flag itself of course is not 5 random coloured circles. It is very unlikely that official Olympic flags would be wrong but be aware that unlicensed traders could get it wrong! That is of course only if you are remotely interested!!

Infinity and beyond.....

It will feel like infinity to any under 10s waiting for the next part of Toy Story. They do have people already on board and it has been 'green lighted' however Toy Story 4 will not hit the screens until 2015, so it maybe best not to tell your junior people anything at all about it!! Not just yet anyway!!
Monsters 2, Monsters University is with us next year and news from the same source insists that Finding Nemo 2 will be done though it would seem that there is only a director so far, John Carter. I guess though a director is a start!!
These are all answers to the question posed by shareholders of both Disney and Pixar, "Just how are we going to keep on making money in the next few years?"

MNIK

"MY NAME IS KHAN AND
I AM NOT A TERRORIST"

Ok it's really quite rare that I rave about any movies that I've seen here and it's not because I don't see any great movies it is more that I see a lot that aren't that special but they are not  that bad either! New cinema films are more family events and more appropriately commented on in passing on Facebook. Ice Age 4 is typical of that, it was my Granddaughter's first cinema film and really a funny film but I didn't think worthy of mention here.
The majority of films are DVD's that come in the post or I watch online when there is nothing on TV or I'm bored with playing music!
The odd one affects me in some major way and then I buy it so I can watch it on my own schedule.

MNIK, My Name Is Khan is one such film.
It's cinema release was two and a half years ago with a huge amount of publicity and good and bad reviews. It didn't break many box office records anywhere, globally and wasn't nominated for any mainstream awards.
It is a Bollywood film and within that genre was regarded as one of the best films of its type ever.
Bollywood is not a popular genre to 'western film goers' and suffers bad press. All music and poor dancing, subtitled, two hours too long, badly made, no story, chick flicks are all criticisms offered before anybody has seen it!!

<< Prejudging and prejudice and a number of other isms, not worthy of further research.>>

I am not going to tell you about the film's plot and storyline, far better you have no preconceived idea but please remember or never forget, the highlighted part above !
To me now this film is way more than "epic", it is life itself. It is how you react to what everyday life can throw at you. It is how you deal with life itself and it gets you by the throat and says, "This is happening - now and how would you deal with it?" It is an eye opener and more importantly a question asker. In fact I defy you to see it and tell me there hasn't been some kind of change about the way you think about things!
On top of all that it is funny, untypically Bollywood, with a beautiful story and strong actors playing wonderfully deep characters.

Before its release I was told by the person that converted me to Bollywood that this film would change my life, I have to say I didn't really believe her at the time. When she saw it on the weekend of its release she said it had changed her life. That I wasn't sure about.
I hired it, watched it, bought it online, received my own copy within 48 hours and have watched it eight times since.
"It'll change your life!"
Yeah right!
It did mine and it will yours.
To that friend, thank you, the greatest gift you could give me was the recommendation to go see 'My Name Is Khan'

"How far would you go for something you truly believe in?"

I am a ..........

So another fine tune found lurking as a commercial!! This one does get heaps of exposure as Nikon sponsor Hollyoaks, but here's your chance to listen to the music!

Orange anyone?

So welcome to the "Glorious 12th" or Orange Day. Nothing to do with mobile phones and free cinema offer codes or anything like that. This is the day celebrated in 'some' parts of the world, mainly the protestant world, the world of 'The
Orange Order The Orange Institution (more commonly known as the Orange Order, the Orange Lodge or theOrangemen).'

To anyone who lives in Hoylake, Merseyside (where me and my Mum used to live) and have wondered why King's Gap is so called, further research will reveal the King referred to is King William of Orange! As a consequence the Orange Order used to have huge, flamboyant, noisy parades marching through Hoylake, but it was always, a bit of a mystery and when I was (heaps) younger I used to ask my Mum (then a hugely catholic Liverpool catholic) "What was this colourful loud parade all about?" "Oh you don't want to be bothered with all that rubbish - but I suppose if I really must I will tell you when you are older!" For my Mum even right up until she died that was a big negative refusal and so out of character.
I never asked her again because in the mean time I found out what it was all about! More importantly why Mum had this hatred, which for her was a very base emotion of The Orange Order.
Even now you know and she's been dead nearly two years I'm not mentioning the word 'happy' in relation to today, for fear of some wind chime battle, which is the way she now shows her distaste at things I do!!
Shortly before she died she met my great friend from work, who was to be fair the highest person I ever met in the Orange Order and Mum commented on how nice a man he was. Do you think I said what was on the tip of my tongue? (Did you know he was an Orangeman, Mum?) NO WAY NEVER!!
